‘Forget Your Past’ by Timothy Allen

Timothy Allen is an English photographer who found an old Communist-era monument in Buzludzha, Bulgaria. His 250km journey from Sofia to the edge of the Balkan mountains, whilst fighting a huge snow storm helped him capture this incredible series of photographs of what this place currently looks like today.

Buzludha was built as an ideological monument to Communism, and as you can see in the photo above, over 20 years have come and gone turning this monument into a snow capped relic atop the Balkan mountains. Looking more like a James Bond villain’s headquarters, this monument was designed by architect GuĆ©orguy Stoilov with more than 6,000 workers helping to build it during its seven year construction period.
To date, every year at the end of July, 30-40,000 Bulgarian Socialists still congregate at Buzludzha to mark the founding of the Bulgarian Social-Democratic Party.
